Start this summer for your child with this fun-filled, challenging, interesting day camp.
Monday July 1st the Tobermory Yacht Club, in conjunction with Summer House Park, will be offering a 5 day “learn to sail” day camp at Miller Lake. This is taught by 2 instructors from Ontario Sailing and is certified by the Canada Yachting Association. It is an introductory and grassroots sailing program. Ontario Sailing’s unique BOOM Program makes this summer camp accessible with two mobile sailing schools, each with 8 boats, that travel throughout the province bringing sailing lessons to local Yacht Clubs. The sailing basics that are taught are the requirements for the CANSAIL level 1 certification. To get this certificate it usually takes two weeks, so many of last year’s students have signed up again to get this certification.
There is space for 16 students between the ages of 8 and 14. The camp runs from 9:00am to 4:00pm.
With this camp being held at Summer House Park, on the shores of Miller Lake, there is the bonus of using the wonderful water park at Summer House Park. The Park generously offer the students use of the water park for a short time at the end of the day. Also by having this camp at the beginning of the summer there is the opportunity to hone the learnt skills using the rental sailing boats at Summer House Park. With the certificate, showing your child has taken the course this summer, they offer a reduced rental fee for the sailing boats.
After all the enquiries last summer, the Tobermory Yacht Club is also offering an evening sailing class for ADULTS. Many of the parents from last year have already signed up after seeing how much fun their children had! These evening classes will be for 8 adults, 4 nights, July 1st to July 4th from 6:00 – 9:00pm. Each adult student will be helming their own boat so a real “hands-on” experience!
Register now to not be disappointed and have to wait till summer 2020 to learn to sail.
