Save the date for another fantastic event in our community. The Terry Fox run ‘No Matter What’ will be held on Sunday September 15th at 1pm at the Bruce Peninsula District school in Lion’s Head. Come and walk, run, wheel or push your way along the beautiful shores of Georgian Bay for a good cause.
The Lion’s Head Run for cancer research has been a part of the community since 1991 and it has been so great through the last few years to see parents bring their young ones along to an event they once themselves took part in as kids.
Last year was a record year for the Lion’s Head Terry fox event with a fundraising total of $24,628.00. Our goal this year is to get as many participants as possible to join us for the event itself. In past years we have had 60-110 people attend. This year our goal is 200! You don’t have to do the entire 10km event, just any part you choose.
We will be set up in the BPDS school car park, along with water stations at the 2.5km point and 5km turn around point on Isthmus Bay road. Following the event there will be hotdogs available to all participants, as well as participation bracelettes and temporary tattoos. And for those who take part year after year you can receive your plaque sticker from the event too. The Golden Dawn love to see the participants passing by during the event, be sure to stop and say hello on your way by.
There is the option to fundraise online at run.terryfox.ca. You can register as an individual or as a team and spread the word through social media links, or email to friends and family. You can register on the day of the event in person, and bring any donations along with you. On the run day it has proven technically tricky to register through the online app as internet service is not great on Moore street so we do ask that you either register ahead of time, or be prepared to fill in some paper work at the registration table.
T-shirts will be available to purchase this year for $25. There are limited sizes and a small selection of youth t-shirts for $20. For additional sizes or to guarantee your t-shirts, they can be purchased online at any time at shop.terryfox.org
For anyone who has the time and wants a bigger challenge please take a peek at Betty Hastings’ article (on left) and possibly join her on some, or all, of her daily 10km walks leading up to the main event on September 15th.
We are really looking forward to seeing everyone again this year, and any newcomers who are always welcome to join.
