After 17 years, Patricia Madau, resident of Golden Dawn Senior Citizen Home, has recently redefined the meaning of perseverance and has pushed past the limits as she graduated from Ontario College of Art and Design University (OCAD). With her Bachelor in Fine Arts and minor in creative writing, Patricia showed everyone at the Golden Dawn what hard work really is. She worked day and night and when asked how hard it was, all she could say is that she would do it again.
“As a person with a disability, going to a university was an incredible challenge to which any graduate would attest… but I would do it again with a stroke of my brush and a flourish of my pen.
I encourage any person to dream big and think of higher education as a way to develop themselves, their families and their communities.” – Patricia Clara Madau
Patricia and the Golden Dawn would like to extend many thanks to The Peninsula SWANS, The Lions Club, and an anonymous individual for all of their very generous donations which made this moment possible. A huge thank you to Femi, an extremely hard-working PSW employed at the home, for travelling with Patricia and being there for her as she crossed the stage.
We at the Golden Dawn cannot begin to express just how proud of Patricia we are. We watched her put blood, sweat and tears into her schooling. We watched her stay up all hours of the night to get things done. We watched her work through meals and take few breaks (except when she forced herself to take them). Above all else, we watched her cross the stage, and be handed her diploma, and we cheered. Loud.
Congratulations Patricia from your family at The Golden Dawn.
