The 54th Annual Bruce Peninsula Art Show will showcase the works of 47 local and regional artists. Billed as the largest of its kind and type in the Grey/Bruce Counties, the Art show will be held from 2 to 5 August 2024 at the Bruce Peninsula District School (BPDS). On Friday night, the Art Show will host a special recognition event to honour one of their long-time volunteers Sue Dyment who will be retiring this year.
Two Galleries of Art
The Artists are all property owners in Grey Bruce County. The main gallery, Gallery 1, is located in the school’s auditorium and will showcase hanging art, photography, paintings, and fabric artworks.
Gallery 2, located in a room across the hall, will display carvings, art cards, stained glass, blown glass and handcrafted bowls.
The event is completely run by volunteers from the Northern Bruce Peninsula community and also by artists participating in the show. Co-organizer Kathryn Burns says the local artists volunteer in many capacities including administrative duties to ensure the smooth running of the event. Many of the artists will be volunteering during the event and it is a great opportunity for art lovers to chat with the local artists about their art.
The set-up and dismantling of the display boards in the main gallery are generously done by the local fire and rescue team.
Bursaries awarded to two local students in 2024
The Art Show, which is a registered non-profit organization, offers bursaries to graduating high school students who are continuing in the Arts in their post-secondary studies. This year recipients are Samantha Hess and Estee Crawford of BPDS.
Since 1990, 157 Bursaries have been awarded to Art students of the Bluewater District School Board.
The recipients are selected based on recommendations of their Art teachers and must demonstrate outstanding talent in visual arts and commitment to expanding their expression through further post-secondary education.
The Bursary is offered in two-parts, the first award is given at the end of Secondary school year, the following year the student is required to display their work at the Art Show to receive the final sum.
The Art Show also established an Endowment Fund at Georgian College to support students in the Fine Arts Program. Managed by Georgian College, four bursaries have been awarded to date.
Admission to the Art Show is free, but donations are appreciated which go towards the Bursary Fund.
