Rotarians have been busy in recent weeks tending bars for different community events. On Thursday, June 13th, Rotarians tended bar for the Chi-Cheemaun Festival Fashion Show, and on Saturday, June 15th, tended bar for the Fish Dinner sponsored by the Lion’s Head Hospital Auxiliary. Both events were held at the Tobermory Community Centre.
As well, Rotarians tend bars for each of the monthly Trivia Night events sponsored by our Club and held at Rotary Hall in Lion’s Head, including the one held Friday, June 21st.
On Saturday, June 22nd, Rotarians will be tending bar for the 50th Anniversary Picnic Event for the Ferndale, Lion’s Head & District Lions Club at the Ferndale Information Centre and Pavilion. In July, Rotarians will be tending bars for a Book Reading event (July 25th), Celebration of Life event for Dale Scott (July 27th), and Trivia Night event (July 27th), all being held at Rotary Hall.
Pancake Breakfast June 30th
Our second community Pancake Breakfast will be held this coming Canada Day weekend, on Sunday, June 30th at the Rotary Pavilion next to Lion’s Head Beach.
Rotarians and Friends of Rotary will be serving breakfasts which will include pancakes with real maple syrup, scrambled eggs, pork sausages, hash browns, orange juice and coffee/tea. The cost is $15.00 per adult, or $7.00 for children aged 12 and under. Rotary now accepts payment in the form of cash or debit/credit card (via Square card reader).
Rotary encourages you to bring your own plate and cutlery to help reduce waste from this breakfast event. In addition to picnic table seating outside the Rotary Pavilion, there will be an option for breakfast pick-up for those wishing to take away their breakfast. We hope to see you there!
Trivia Night July 27th
Our next Trivia Night at Rotary Hall is scheduled for Saturday, July 27th from 7:30 to 9:30 PM (with doors opening at 7:00 PM), to be hosted by Caeli Mazara and Eric Perez. There will be a $5.00 entry fee, Rotarians will tend bar, and snacks will be available for purchase. As always, those participating can organize their own teams or join an existing team, with typically four to six people per team. Come out and test your trivia knowledge and have some fun – hope to see you there!
Wendell’s Walk for Health Care 2.0
Rotarian Wendell Thomson is planning ‘Wendell’s Walk for Health Care 2.0’ which will take place over the two days of Monday, September 9th and Tuesday, September 10th. Wendell will walk from Pike Bay to Sauble Beach and back to raise funds for Lion’s Head Hospital to ‘keep health care close to home’. The total distance of the walk to and from Sauble Beach is over 60 kilometers, which is comparable to the distance covered by Wendell during his walk last September from Tobermory to Pike Bay.
Last year’s walk generated more than $30,000 in donations directed to Lion’s Head Hospital to support Wendell’s cause of keeping health care local. Bluewater RV of Wiarton will sponsor Wendell’s Walk again this year, providing a support vehicle for Wendell as he walks the road shoulders between Pike Bay and Sauble Beach.
More details about Wendell’s Walk planned for this September will be forthcoming in future issues of Bruce Peninsula Press, including how to donate to this important fundraiser!
