The feel-good vibes just kept coming in the last two weeks of May, as Panthers found many ways to be outside, enjoying the weather and building on our sense of community. Our UN Global Goal for May is Good Health and Well-Being, and we sure found many ways to be active!

On May 14th, many elementary classes participated in the Provincial Day of Action on Litter. Students looked closely around the community and school yard for litter. We are grateful for each of these students and the environmental stewardship they displayed! Throughout May, Jessica Rice’s class collected and analyzed litter around the Lion’s Head community as Litter Ambassadors for Keep the Bruce Clean and Green. The organization provided safety and cleaning gear. Each Friday the class will head out to collect garbage around the village of Lion’s Head, and ensure our community stays clean and green.

On May 13, twenty secondary athletes travelled to Kincardine to participate in the BAA competition. Everyone demonstrated excellent sportsmanship and represented Bruce Peninsula District School (BPDS) well! Many of our athletes placed in the top 10, and eight athletes will be heading to Brantford May 22 and 23 to compete at CWOSSA. Go Panthers!

Furthermore, at BAA track and field, we got to spend the day with our fellow athletes from PSDS (Peninsula Shores District School). In fact, we have had many great sports-partnerships with our neighbours from PSDS this year. On May 9, we held an exhibition soccer game with PSDS athletes. It was a beautiful day to be outdoors, in which sportsmanship, fun, and athleticism were alive and well! Afterwards, we had a BBQ to support the Europe trip. We will be headed to PSDS on June 12 for one more day of soccer fun with our friends.

On May 7, the Elementary Badminton Team travelled down to Thornbury for the board-wide badminton tournament- it was a day full of high-level badminton and nail-biting games, but all of our players gave their best until the very last game! This year we competed against even more schools, placing 3rd overall out of 7 Bluewater schools. Way to go panthers! Thanks to our awesome parent driver for all of her help!

-Jaycee – Girls Singles 2nd place

Finally, we had so many people to thank in our last article, we decided to save half of them for this edition. We would like to thank the following businesses, organizations and/or individuals for their generous contributions to various BPDS clubs and events: Michelle Minke, Kiem Barnes, Bruce County Public Library, Bridge Excavating, Boyle Concrete, Tim Hayes, Don and Sharron Colter, Stacey Thompson, Carrie Thompson, Chloe Cameron, Will Hayward, Anna Martens, Judy Halpern, The Peninsula Press, The Municipality of Northern Bruce Peninsula, Jack Burt, Constables Adam Belanger and Krista Linthorne, Travis Kelly, John and Wendy Rodgers, ACN Electric, Scott Matheson, Ryan Matheson, Mary Hewton, Marydale Ashcroft, Gabe Ladner, and the Bruce Men’s Shed.

Once again, we cannot stress how grateful we are to live in such a wonderful and generous community! It takes a village to raise kids, and we have the best around (kids and village)!
