Preparations For Spring Chicken Barbecue May 15th Underway
Submitted by Rev. Sheryl Spencer
Thank you to everyone who came out to, made food for or helped in any way with “To the Tub with Love,” the annual dinner hosted by Tobermory’s four churches that was held April 18 at the Tobermory Community Centre. Not only did everyone receive a delicious dinner of ham and scalloped or mashed potatoes, salads and desserts, it was also great to see members of the community chatting and visiting, laughing and hanging out. Bit by bit, the fear that we all lived with as part of the pandemic is lifting, and it is, well, uplifting!
At Tobermory United, we’re gearing up for the first Chicken BBQ of the season, which will be held May 15. You can order a barbecued chicken dinner for $25.00, or, new this year, a vegetarian curry dinner, with all the same fixin’s: baked potato, coleslaw, roll, sour cream and dessert (this year, tarts!) Dinners can be picked up at Tobermory United at 5 Brock St. between 4:30 and 6:00 p.m. To pre-order a dinner, call 519-596-2227 or e-mail tucbbqtickets@outlook.com. Dinners (though not the vegetarian option) can also be purchased the day of the barbecue.
The Tobermory Thrift Shop is also getting into gear. Will you be clearing stuff out on the Victoria Day weekend? Good news: The Thrift Shop, 7101 Highway 6, will be open from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Saturday May 18 to Monday May 20 to receive donations. Please, no couches, major appliances or mattresses.
Tobermory United is so proud to have led this community endeavor for many decades. The Thrift Shop reduces waste in our community, provides affordable goods, and if you’re a volunteer, it’s a lot of fun! To volunteer, please call or e-mail the church (519-596-2394; tobermoryunitedchurch@eastlink.ca) by May 24, and please specify what day(s) of the week you’re available. Shifts are from 1-4, and are available from Monday to Saturday.
Rev. Sheryl Spencer is the minister at Tobermory United Church, 5 Brock St. She has office hours every Friday morning from 9:30 to noon. All are welcome to drop by for a chat or just to say hi!
