Springtime is here! After a winter that has seen a lot of activity at the branch, we are now looking towards the warmer days, and the official busy season at the branch. Which brings us to the annual call for volunteers.
Saturday night dances have been a longstanding tradition at the branch in the summer, bringing in much needed revenue to the branch and providing a space where people can come out, have some fun and dance the night away. It was discussed at the March meeting that we would like to attempt to return to having a dance every Saturday night of the summer season (July and August at least) but to do that, we will need more people to volunteer their time to work the event. If you have your smartserve, we could use you! We will need bartenders, door people and a floater to assist with picking up empties throughout the evening, mopping up spills as they happen and generally making sure people are being respectful. Ideally, we will have enough people so that no one has to work every event, so that no one burns out. If you need further details or if you know someone who might be qualified, please reach out to Ways and Means Chair, Judy Hurst at runjude@gmail.com
Speaking of events. This March has been a little quieter at the branch, but that doesn’t mean that things aren’t happening. Regular events are still going on, with Darts on Thursdays, Meat Draw on Saturday afternoons and Bingo, hosted by the Ladies Auxiliary at the Tobermory Community Centre on Mondays.
Sip & Paint March 24th
On Sunday March 24th at 1pm we will be hosting another Sip and Paint event, hosted once again by Sarah Gowland, who will guide the participants through creating their own painting to take home. Cost of the event is $60 and spots are filling up. Pre-Registration is required and can be done at the branch or by sending an e-transfer for the payment to donate@tobermorylegion.org with a note that it is for the Sip and Paint event.
Notice of Motion Vote/Elections to be Held April 9th
At the March 12th meeting a motion was made, and seconded that we revert back to the original rule at the branch requiring all guests and members to remove their hats upon entering the branch. The motion is on the table and will be voted on by secret ballot at the April 9th meeting. You must be at the meeting to be able to vote.
While we understand that there are many in the community that have strong feelings about this issue, we request that people remember to be kind to each other while we go through this process.
Elections are set for the next meeting on April 9th where we will be voting for a new President, 1st Vice President, 2nd Vice President and Secretary. If you are curious about the tasks or the workload expected from any of these positions, you are encouraged to speak to a member who has held the position in the past for information on what to expect. Ideally, more than one person is nominated for each position to give the membership a choice in the leadership of the branch.
The next general meeting will be at 4pm on April 9th. Please plan to attend. As members of this community, this is your legion, and if you want to have a say in it’s direction, you need to show up and vote.
