On 6 October 2023, The Hellyer Family posted on their social media page:

“We finally have some concrete news to report on for the reconstruction of our store. The store itself is structurally sound. A portion of the rafters and ceiling that were affected by the fire need to be replaced as does one exterior wall. That work should start quickly.”

The first step was for the building to be completely emptied and totally cleaned, this has been ongoing since August 30. Contractors have been hired and will start work within days to replace the rafters and west wall of the existing building. The construction phase is expected to be two to four weeks long.

Due to smoke damage, all of the refrigeration units, freezers and shelving needs to be replaced. Their supplier Hussmann will be visiting the grocery store this week to look at the space and offer advice on the architectural plans and technical expertise. The Hellyers hope to be able to place an order for the replacement refrigeration units and freezers soon after Hussman’s visit.

Kara Hellyer says she is feeling positive about the steps being taken. However, it will take time for the coolers, freezers and shelving to be purchased, installed and restocked with grocery supplies. They are anticipating some supply chain issues, and as such, they are hesitant to state a firm reopening date.

When the store reopens, Kara states “expect that the grocery store will have a new look with a different layout”.

The Hellyer family wants the community to know that “We appreciate all your well wishes and want you to know how tirelessly we are working to have the store reopened with all the charm you appreciate while implementing some new features we hope you will love.”

The Hellyers wish to thank the Pentecostal Country Church on Highway 6 for hosting the staff for a Thanksgiving meal and also to their employee Leann Rouse and her spouse Bob for gathering the team for a get-together at their Hunt Camp.
