Over 2 days a total of 54 boats were lifted out of Lion’s Head Marina for the Annual Fall Crane Day event as the Marina prepares for winter.

On 6 October 2023, a sunny 15C day but at times strong wind gusts halting the lifting of the boats, 40 boats were moved out of the water. Day 2, a cooler, soggy Thanksgiving Saturday, 14 boats were lifted out of the water.

Bill Loghrin has been involved in organizing Crane Day for over 44 years, he says it is a boaters’ project. Loghrin praises the high level of camaraderie and support by the boaters in assisting each other to get the boats out of the water.

There were nine more boats than last year. Both Loghrin and Chris Matheson agree that the demographics of the sailors are shifting to more young people and an increasing number of younger families.

As always Crane Day draws spectators of all ages.
