A Call for Community Partnership

Submitted by Jane Greenhouse

The summer was a busy one for the Church of St Edmund’s and Tobermory United Church (TUC). Together, in a variety of locations, both church and non-church, we celebrated Summer in the Spirit. Our series included sessions with Indigenous teachers (and fire, when it was permitted), singing at the Legion, walking the TUC Labyrinth, a healing service, a folk-rock concert at St Edmund’s, forest church in the National Park, a Tobermory walkabout and of course a potluck!

It was a busy summer indeed, and what we noticed coming out of it is that Tobermory is full of Spirit! Full of those who want to participate in life in the Spirit. Our themes for the summer series are now becoming the central theme for our call for community partnership.

Are you a community partner who is interested in:

– BUILDING COMMUNITY?

– HONOURING THE SACREDNESS OF PLACE?

– CELEBRATING SPIRIT?

If you are, we want to hear from you. We want to talk with you to find out how we can share our church space in building our common life in Spirit in Tobermory. If you are thinking of beginning a community project that may meet these criteria, but are not yet sure, please get in touch with us. The Anglican church at the Gap has a small hall adaptable for many uses.

Maybe you are imagining a community project but aren’t quite sure whether what you are thinking of would be a fit? Please don’t let the doubt stop you. Get in touch with us and share your ideas; maybe we can build something together. Maybe we can find a way to host or support your initiative in our building? We would be delighted to discuss possibilities.

Our church is not simply a place for Sunday worship gatherings. It is a hub from which we hope our community may be built better and stronger, with deeper friendships and stronger relationships. It is a place from which we want to celebrate the spirit of our common humanity in this shared creation.

We look forward to hearing from you:
