Several activities have taken place at the Lion’s Head Legion recently.

Bruce Peninsula District School student Aria Thomas, who participated in the Public Speaking competition, presented her speech at the intermediate school, legion zone, and district and provincial levels. Congratulations to Aria who won first overall at the Legion sponsored provincial level in Stouffville, Ontario on the weekend. 

On Thursday May 6, the Branch Executive for 2023 – 2024 was elected and installed by Rob Butchart, Zone C-4 Commander and Steve Rice Deputy Zone C-4 Commander. The executive members are as follows: Past President – Fred Van Tooren, President – Richard Smith, 1st Vice-President – Wayne Morningstar, 2nd Vice-President – Don Colter, Secretary – Chris Mawdsley, Treasurer – Karin Webb, Sergeant-at-Arms – Kim White and Executive Committee Members – Susan Uren, Nicki Germann and Sharron Colter. Brian Reis is the chaplain.

Darts have ended until next September. Corn Hole will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 25th. You do not have to be a member to play.

Friday night Euchre is from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and will continue until June 22nd. There will be no Euchre on Friday, May 19th due to the long weekend.

Mark your calendars for two upcoming community dinners. 

On Tuesday, July 11th from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. a Roast Beef dinner for $25.00 per person will be available. 

The Fish Fry will be on Tuesday, August 15th from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. for $25.00. 

More information will be available about purchasing tickets in June. 

The Lion’s Head Legion continues to be available to not-for-profit groups. The Old Schoolhouse Seniors of Stokes Bay are meeting twice monthly at the legion for lunch and dinner. 

A recent newly organized group called the Bruce Men’s Shed is meeting at the Legion on various Saturday mornings for coffee and conversation. The next meeting is on Saturday, May 20th and then June 3rd at 9:00 a.m. The Bruce Men’s Shed welcomes retired men who want to make connections with others, to learn about woodworking, hiking Bruce Trail and listening to speakers on a variety of topics.
