Lions Head and District Curling Club

The 2022/23 curling season came to an end March 6, leaving us to watch the Brier on TV and dream of the magnificent shots we will try to make next year!

Draw 4 was won by George Hambleton’s team, George, Scott Cole, Brenda Nelson and Ian Couper/Claudio D’Arcangelo. Congratulations to the team and many thanks to Bear Tracks Inn and Restaurant for sponsoring this draw and providing the prizes.

We have appreciated all of our draw sponsors this year, Scott’s Home Hardware, Hellyer’s Foodland, Miller Family Camp and Bear Tracks Inn and Restaurant. Thanks also to our Bonspiel sponsors, Rona – Miller Lake and Wilson Home Building Centre. Your support of our club means a lot.

L-R: Most Sportspersonlike Curler Award 2022-23 was presented to Susan McLachlin by Club President, George Hambleton.

The most improved curler award this year was won by Mia Toose and the most sportspersonlike award went to Susan McLachlin. These two awards are made by secret ballot by the rest of the curlers so it is quite an honor to be chosen for this.

We held our AGM and Election of Officers after curling on March 6. We will be purchasing a piece of equipment called a “Nipper” that will help improve the ice surface and we are also undertaking a plan to recondition our aging rocks. This will be done over a number of years, a few rocks at a time. All of the rocks were inspected and graded so the worst ones will be done this summer and be ready for a better curling experience next fall.

An open invitation is extended to attend our free Annual “Learn to Curl” night in October. Come out and see what it’s all about and meet some great people at the arena in Lion’s Head.

L-R: Most Improved Curler 2022-23 Award was presented to Mia Toose, by George Hambleton, Club President.
