Brian Taylor, Chair of the Board of the Golden Dawn Senior Citizen Home and Hanne Fynbo, Treasurer accepted a cheque of $1,200 from Julia Cetnar and Greg Williamson who were representing the Lion’s Head Rock Climbing community.

Cetnar says “It was heartwarming to see how many climbers donated to the fundraiser – including those who don’t even climb at Lion’s Head. It really shows what a great little climbing community we have, one that is willing to pitch in and help our neighbours and to continually work towards maintaining sustainable access to the areas we love to recreate in.”

Cetnar continues “This project was also an interesting learning experience for many of us who were unaware of the history and importance of the Golden Dawn and the scope of the upgrades the Home is hoping to do (big thanks to Brian Taylor for educating us!).”

Cetnar had also listened to a podcast and learned that community integration of seniors leads to their better mental wellbeing and longevity. The potential of creating a local hub with a variety of resources to help better integrate seniors into the community resonated with the climbers.

“The climbing community is so excited to help with this” says Cetnar “We want to let the town know that we are not only striving to be good stewards of the local environment, but of its people as well.”

Taylor says the next phase for Golden Dawn is to seek out seed funding and then hire consultants to conduct a Feasibility Study on the Rebuild of the Home. Further details will be announced in upcoming issues of the press.
