Recognition of 40 Years in Municipal Government – Mayor Milt McIver
Chief Administrative Officer, Peggy Van Mierlo-West, presented Mayor McIver with a certificate recognizing 40 years of involvement in municipal government.
The following was recognized within the presentation:
Mayor McIver first became involved in local politics when he was elected as Reeve of the former Township of Lindsay in 1982. He continued in that position until amalgamation of the four northern Bruce Peninsula municipalities occurred in 1999. Upon amalgamation the Head of Council title changed from Reeve to Mayor. As of November 8, 2022, Mayor McIver will be in municipal politics 40 years. Milt submitted his mayor candidate papers to run in the 2022 Election and was successful in another four-year term.
Mayor McIver has served as Mayor of the Municipality of Northern Bruce Peninsula since 1999. This service, combined with his duties as Reeve in the former Lindsay Township, totals forty (40) years of involvement in municipal government.
In 2008, Mayor McIver was in the position of Warden for the County of Bruce for his third term.
Over the years, Mayor McIver has worked with many residents, members of Council and volunteers. He has been involved integrally with countless committees and organizations focused on building and maintaining a strong community.
Mayor McIver is a dedicated supporter of agriculture, tourism and small industrial and business sectors within the municipality as well as County-wide.
Following the presentation from Chief Administrative Officer, Peggy Van Mierlo-West, Mayor McIver thanked his wife, Bonnie Warder, fellow council members, staff and people who have continually supported him throughout his 40 years in municipal government.
