Volunteers and Members Needed for Ladies Auxiliary Branch 290

The Ladies Auxiliary is currently in need of members and volunteers.

• Who we are: During the 1914-18 war years as wounded veterans returned home, women helped with recovery by visiting hospitals and sending care parcels to the families and dependants. Thus the Ladies Auxiliary unofficially became a reality. We have been part of the Tobermory community since and were officially chartered in 1947.

• Objective: Assist the Branch in activities. Branches are the most important element in the structure of the Royal Canadian Legion, therefore the Ladies Auxiliary is a very integral part of the work of Legions at all levels. Becoming a member can be a very rewarding experience. It is recognized that not everyone wants to, or can give, the same time commitment, but we are grateful for whatever time you can spare to assist with the work of this great organization.

The Ladies Auxiliary Branch 290 is currently struggling. We have a handful of the same members attending meetings, volunteering for lunches, Bingos, Santa and Easter events. Your Auxiliary donates to more than a dozen local charities, bursaries, homeless vets, veterans wishes, women’s shelters, and many other charities.

We are also seeking members who will stand for a position on the Executive. It’s time for some of us to step down, myself and Secretary Penny have held these positions for over 10 years and will not stand for another term in 2023. Meetings are the 1st Wednesday of each month at 11:00 am September to June. We are willing to meet at another time, perhaps in the evening if that works better for people.

If you are interested or would like more information please contact Penny Hellyer 519-596-2822, or myself, Jo Anne Lane 519-270-7034.

The Ladies Auxiliary Branch 290 celebrated 75 years in April of this year. Many of us are 2nd, 3rd, 4th and even 5th generation members. We do not want to surrender the charter. The community will miss the events and the important work the Ladies do here. But unfortunately if we do not have new members join who will help out with events then sadly the Ladies Auxiliary will fold.

Respectfully,

Jo Anne Lane,

Branch 290 L. A. President
