This year, we were able to have a Remembrance Day ceremony more in keeping with past ceremonies, but were still not able to have a full parade due to Covid regulations. The day, although windy, was fairly mild for this time of year.
The Colour Party, lead by Sergeant-at-Arms Chris McCoy, consisted of Doug Smith carrying the Canada flag; Neil Golden carrying the Legion Branch flag; Elaine Sinha carrying the Ladies Auxiliary flag and Sean Hurst carrying the Red Ensign. Keeping the Colour Party in step was drummer Bill Gowland.
President Judy Hurst presided over the ceremony, Piper Katie Hauck played The Lament, John Lane provided the anthems and sound and Pastor Mike Quesnel from the Light & Life church led us in prayer. Many thanks to all of those mentioned and to everyone else who organized wreaths, placed the crosses and to the Ladies Auxiliary for providing a light lunch back at the branch afterward.
Thank you to the community of Tobermory for showing up to honour our veterans; once again it was absolutely amazing and astonishing to see for such a small village how many people attended the ceremonies.
We Will Remember Them.

Tobermory Legion Branch 290 News:
The Skunk Came Back and Upcoming Events
The skunk returned! Yes, we were victorious in evicting him but he came back and was wandering around the legion looking for a way to return to his cozy apartment. The lingering perfume gave him away.
As he didn’t pay for his last lodgings, the Skunk Hunters (Brad Inglis & Elaine Sinha) were not about to let the squatter return. So, we borrowed a trap from Doug Smith, thank you Doug, and baited with sardines. Then waited… and lo and behold we actually trapped the skunk! It is hard to say which party was more surprised.
Well, trapping and relocation are two very different things, but I am pleased and a little amazed to report that the skunk was successfully relocated to a safe area far away from the legion with no casualties other than a tarp. Safe transportation was provided by Wendy Perkes and Barry McNinch, thank you so much for the loan of your vehicle and trailer.
If anyone wants to know where the relocation site is the Skunk Hunters have been sworn to secrecy and the answer to that question is – why your back yard of course.
