Keep the Bruce Clean & Green (KTBC&G) wishes everyone a happy Spring! Rumour has it, it is going to be a very busy summer! All the more reason to think about this idea: Although Earth Day has passed, let’s commit to making every day, Earth Day! We can do this by continuing to REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE, RESPECT and RETHINK how we treat the Earth!
The Earth is “us”, we are the environment! It is ourselves we are saving.

KTBC&G will continue the following initiatives:
• Bottles, cans, liquor returnables will again be accepted at 182 Cape Hurd Road. Or, call 519-596-2649 for pickup. That is how serious we are about unnecessary waste going to the landfill site!
• Our Green Tomato Cage Garbage Blitz on long weekends and special weeks will resume! Bags and tomato cages are available, just contact us at keepthebruceclean@gmail.com.
Now some might ask, why should we do this? According to the Psychology of Littering, Lou Blouin says that “the distance to a trash receptacle was the strongest predictor of littering”! So the further away you are from a garbage container, the more likely one is to litter! Our initiative is non-intrusive, the bags are highly visible, they can be easily removed and changed and it is a lot easier to get rid of one bag than pick up litter piece by piece. One outstanding citizen, Hugh Stevenson, who regularly walks and picks litter up, would vouch for that.
• We will continue our relationship with the Bruce Trail Club. Their pilot project “Keep The Bruce Trail Clean and Green” was a huge success! Their Litter Ambassadors picked up almost 12,000 pieces of litter on the trail, in our area last summer!
• KTBC&G items are sold at Reader’s Haven and Land’s End in Tobermory, and LAMBlicious in Wiarton. Soon Summer House Park in Miller Lake will join the group. Or, just contact us at our email address.
Future endeavours in the works are: a Garden cleanup in Tobermory, and the Adopt-a-Road idea (let us know if you are interested in supporting this idea). We will be hosting a “Thank you dinner” in the Fall and we are expanding into South Bruce with more Litter Leaders.
We thank the Municipality for their continued support! Indeed, every supporter helps us achieve our goals and we couldn’t do it alone!
