In the last six years, the Bruce Peninsula Biosphere Association with support from Ontario’s Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks has helped landowners replace 50 septic systems and the inspection and minor repairs of 100 other systems.

Currently the Municipality does not have a residential septic system inspection program, so for example, systems installed 20 years ago may not have been inspected unless the owner requested it. Best practice suggests a system be inspected every three years.

To qualify for the $4,000 support payment offered by the Biosphere Association to replace a failing system, the septic system needs to be inspected and impairing the water quality of the lake or rivers in high priority areas.
