In 1991, the first Lion’s Head Terry Fox Run was organized by Roger and Vicki Stevens, with the help of a friend, Todd Wainwright. It was a cause near and dear to our hearts after having been through a cancer diagnosis and treatment of our son. Since that time, the Lion’s Head Run has raised $211,740 for cancer research. Pretty incredible for our small, but very generous community!
In 2020, the Lion’s Head event was run virtually, as were many other charity fundraisers. The fundraising results of this virtual event were also incredible – $10,080.00! As last year has shown, social media has become a strong and powerful way to reach out to large numbers of people.
It makes sense to us to have the Lion’s Head Run organized by enthusiastic, energetic volunteers who have the social media expertise to reach out to these numbers. So, after 30 years of spear-heading the Lion’s Head Terry Fox Run, we are looking for a person, or persons, to carry on the tradition. It is time for us to bow out!
The Terry Fox Run organization has some awesome people at the office in Toronto. They run an organizers’ workshop every year which brings volunteers together from all over the province to brainstorm and support the community organizers. They seem to be there 24/7 to help any way they can, so you are certainly not alone in any organizational endeavours!
If you have any interest at all in being a part of the Terry Fox Run community, please call either Roger or Vicki Stevens at 519-793-3872. We will be more than happy to answer any questions.
As Terry said, “Anything’s possible if you try.”
