As the sun sets on the horizon of the summer season, the Tobermory Yacht Club (TYC) would like to thank all those who participated and/or helped in any way to promote and to provide the members as well as the entire community with fun and camaraderie involving anything water-related from the BOOM program, Cardboard Boat Race, Boat Parade and a musical rendezvous to Lion’s Head.
New this year was a trial run of the TYC Kayak-Poker-Fun-Run. Seventeen kayakers vied in the water for the best cards waiting for them at various docks around Hay Bay followed by a well attended Pot-Luck where the winner, Jim Blight, was announced as having the best hand, as well as being the fastest kayaker. Thanks to Mother Nature who provided a perfect day; for the dock hands: Rick Peacock, Tyler McAfee, Rob Davis, Udo Nixdorf, Dave Crosby, Dave Gowing and Bob Daniell; and the Princess Hotel for providing the First Place Prize.
All agreed that we should sponsor this as a scheduled event open to everyone in the community in 2020.
Two weeks later we rendezvoused in Gore Bay, “One if by Land, Two if by Sea”. Two boats and three vehicles arrived changing the title to three if by land two if by sea. We hiked Cup and Saucer and Bridal Veil Falls, not to mention the inclusion of a young buck sauntering through the town during the community garage sale looking for a bigger rack.
All this was followed by another infamous Pot-Luck.
Coming up is TYC’s Annual Presentation in which all are invited, especially those who are interested or know someone who might be inclined to become a Chi-Cheemaun Captain…first prerequisite is love of the water. The Presentation, “A Possibility” will be held Thursday, September 19th at the Legion 7:00 pm. Free will offering to Legion #290. Watch for the posters.
Hard to believe it’s time to haul the boats when it seems like we just put them in. Better than being in Florida or the Bahamas right now. We count our blessings.
