Photo: The shelves at the Lion’s Head & District Food Bank are almost bare. Volunteers are asking for donations to help restock.

The number of donations to the Lion’s Head & District Food Bank over the Christmas season was tremendous. The shelves were overflowing and we had boxes of canned goods piled on the floor. I wondered how in the world we were ever going to disperse so much food. We had so much Kraft Dinner that we asked people not to donate it any longer.

Last year at this time, business at the Food Bank had slowed down, with more people working. The same is not true this summer. Business has been steady throughout May, June and July. We have some families with small children and the need is great!

We have run out of almost everything and have been using monetary donations to purchase non-perishable food items. We are even running low on Kraft Dinner! Items especially needed are jam, Cheez Whiz, pancake mix, Hamburger Helper, canned fruit and veggies, puddings, dish soap, body wash, toothpaste, vinegar, mayonnaise, salad dressing, tomato sauce, canned tuna, salmon, ham or chicken, flour, oatmeal and sugar. Mr Noodles is a favourite as well.

Donations can be dropped off at The Revival Centre, Wednesday to Saturday or placed in the Food Bank bin at Foodland in Lion’s Head. Please do not donate expired food as it goes directly to the land fill

The Food Bank will be closed for 2 weeks, starting August 26th until September 10th to allow our volunteers a short rest. Prior to that you may request a hamper by calling or texting 519-378-8842.
