On Friday evening, November 30, 14 members of Ferelith Hoffman-Taylor’s Tobermory Muses presented their 2nd Annual Christmas Concert to a full house at Tobermory United Church. The selections of the Muses’ writings featured memoir, glossa, ballad, and storytelling, styles favoured by each of the Muses that expressed a range of emotions: love, honour, nostalgia, remembrance, and yes, a little wry humour.

Between the stories was a lovely musical interlude by Nick Ferrence (drums), Denis Leblanc (piano) and Sheila Peacock (vocals). A second musical interlude of Carol Singing was led by the Pop Up Choir, a perfect assortment of very talented voices drawn from our community.

Carol Herman, with her rendition of Leonard Cohen’s “Anthem” and wearing her fedora in a nod to Canada’s late, great poet and songwriter, introduced the final reading by Ferelith: The Cracked Pot. The evening event concluded with a duet by Wendi Schwindt and Rainer Hoffman-Taylor singing “Stille Nacht” Silent Night, accompanied by Elaine White on the piano and joined in by the audience. And then the refreshments: mulled cider and holiday sweets of every sort, and of course, much more storytelling.

Merry Christmas to All!
