Bill Walker Media Release
On November 23 local MPP Bill Walker met with members of the Wiarton and District Curling Club to hear how a $150,000 Capital grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) is delivering on long-term impact. The Club has managed with a piping system that was installed 55 years ago, and now thanks to the OTF Capital grant it received earlier this year, a new system has been installed.
“This grant is an investment in the community of Wiarton and area which will foster more active lifestyles, improve the operating efficiency of the facility, and ensure the sustainability of the curling club while positively impacting the lives of residents and visitors who utilize this very valuable community hub. Thank you to all involved who made this project a reality.” said the Hon. Bill Walker, MPP for Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound.
Roger Cosgrove, an OTF volunteer, joined MPP Walker at the Club for a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Custom Ice Inc, oversaw the installation of the new pipes and headers at the Club over the summer. Club members were also heavily involved with the project, investing over 1,000 hours of their time to do the preparation work required by the contractors to make the work go as seamlessly as possible and have the ice surface ready for the new season.
“The new system allows the to look forward to many years of great conditions for our members, community groups and guests. We appreciate the support of the Ontario Trillium Foundation, the excellent work done by Custom Ice and the efforts of club members throughout this project.” said Dave Waddington, Board Member.
