With council’s discission to turn the Cabot Head Road into a multi use trail my wife has effectively been barred from ever seeing the Cabot Head Lighthouse up close. She has severe mobility issues and cannot walk or bicycle. I guess the fact that she is disabled excludes her from any enjoyment of the lighthouse. I guess the ableist society wins again!
Somehow the forward thinking people of Neyaashiinigmiig have managed to keep the road open to the Cape Croker Lighthouse for the enjoyment of all, not just some.
The Ontario Human Rights Act and the Accessability For Ontarians With Disabilities Act guarantee equal treatment, barrier-free access, and the legal duty to accommodate people with disabilities. The council seems to have disregarded these acts!
I know the names of the councillors who voted in favour of the multi-use trail. If you are planning on running in the next municipal election, don’t count on our votes!!
