June 22nd marked the end of the Lion’s Head Soccer program for this year. This was the fourth year the program has run, and each year it is growing.

Kids in grades JK-5 participate in skills and drills for one hour at Bruce Peninsula District School (BPDS) sports field. The registration fees this year were used as a fundraiser to support BPDS and St. Edmunds Public School supplies.

The program donated sports equipment to both schools, giving students the opportunity to stay active throughout the year. From basketballs, agility cones, and soccer balls to sand buckets and shovels, these new supplies will support play, physical activity, and learning for local students.

I am sure participating players and families would agree in saying a huge thank you to our wonderful high school helpers this year. This is the most we’ve ever had, and they showed up each week with an eagerness to help and smiles for kids.

Thank you to the fantastic coaches, Kristen, Elijah, Sacha, Basha, Michal, Lincoln and Adam.

Big shout out to the parents for getting their kids back to the school field, or down the peninsula from Tobermory for a 6pm soccer practise on a Monday. That is no easy task!

And lastly, the biggest thank you, to the 68 amazing players we had this year. Everyone improved each week in their dribbling skills, throw ins, strikes, passing and especially their sportsmanship.

Next year our program will begin May 3rd and go through to June 28th.

Enjoy your summer. Stay active.
