Your local Rotary Club was pleased to participate by running the bar at the Fish Fry as a partner with the Lioness Club and the Barrow Bay and District Fish Club. We were raising money for the MRI at Grey Bruce Health Services in Owen Sound. This joint project was not only successful financially but was a wonderful experience for the three groups working together.
Together we were able to present a cheque for $8,880.00 to the Bruce Peninsula Health Services Foundation for the MRI. We were all very proud. We encourage each of you to help with this project.
Rotarians Captain Gerald Greig and Rotary Treasurer John White were on hand for the presentation at our local hospital here on October 16th. Rotary’s Captain Gerald sold a quarter of the tickets by himself.
WORLD POLIO DAY
World Polio Day for Rotary was October 24th. Clubs around the world try to do something to raise funds to assist with the Polio Plus Campaign. It has been our goal to eliminate polio on our planet and we are so very close to having that happen.
Locally, we celebrated a little early with a Rotary Partners’ Pot Luck Dinner. Normally we would have our dinners catered but, this time, we decided to do potluck and donate money collected that evening to Polio Plus.
It was an enjoyable event with great food, great company, and a tremendous speaker. Everyone enjoyed themselves and were happy to celebrate World Polio Day in this unique manner.
Griffon Thomas, a Rotary Exchange Student who spent a year in South Korea was our guest speaker. Griffon was a fine example of a Rotary Exchange Student. He spoke well and described so many interesting parts of his visit. The experience he had and that many other exchange students have had over the years, is something that is hard to put into words. Many describe their year as ‘life changing’ and, listening to this fine young man makes one understand how important this experience is to our youth.
We are so proud of Griffon and thank him for sharing his experiences with us at a time when we were supporting Polio Plus, another wonderful Rotary Project.
We also had exchange students from Chile and from Taiwan in attendance and a young woman from France who is on a three month exchange at Bruce Peninsula District School.
By the end of the evening we had collected $250.00. The club will combine this with the money made from the Rotary Bikers who visited our hall and other funds we collected through club activities and donate $1,000.00 this year to the Polio Plus Campaign. We are proud to be part of this International Project.
CLEANING THE HALL
The Rotary Club decided, in early October, that it was time for a thorough cleaning of the hall. It turned out to be a major task but, many hands make light work. With the cooperation of the NP Co Work Group, we started early in the morning with crews working both downstairs and upstairs. We finished just after two in the afternoon. Cupboards were cleaned, dishes all organized, floors were swept and washed, walls were dusted, windows were washed, and the tasks kept coming. We totalled over 40 hours of work on this project by the time the day was over.
Together we had a great time and the building was clean just in time for the for the days of advance polls/ballot voting.
SANTA CLAUS PARADE
Well, it is that time again. We have received a call from the North Pole asking the Rotary Club of Northern Bruce Peninsula to start preparing for Santa’s visit to Lion’s Head. With that in mind we have enlisted the help of a lot of ‘local elves’ to make that possible.
Letters are being sent to sponsors and we know, once again, we will receive a wonderful response. If you are a regular supporter of this parade, you might want to watch for your letter in the mail.
We need people to plan to participate just like other years. The date is SATURDAY, DECEMBER 7th. The parade assembles at the Bruce Peninsula District School where it starts promptly at 1:00 P.M. but BE THERE BY 12:15 TO GET REGISTERED. The parade marshal will be on hand with assistants to get you registered and to give you a number to proudly display so the judges will know who you are when you pass their reviewing stand.
Bragging rights will be given to the FIRST, SECOND, AND THIRD place winners and the judges might even add a special award if they see something that really stands out.
There is no cost to register your group, your float or yourself. Come dressed for the season to welcome Santa to town.
Once again the parade will end at the Rotary Hall where Santa will disembark his sleigh and have treats for all the children. Come make the Jolly Old Elf feel welcome to the Northern Bruce Peninsula.
