The Annual Lion’s Head Hospital Auxiliary held July 4th and 5th was an amazing success. So many donations came in from the community that the tables were overflowing. The first person to enter this year was waiting in line since 6:45am. He said he’d wanted to be first in line last year but was third so this year ensured his place in line by getting there extra early.
Items flew off the tables until about 10:45am. After that a steady stream of shoppers came through until closing time at 1:00pm. Those waiting in line to pay were serenaded by our wonderful musicians and the Lions Club served delicious peameal bacon buns or sausage-on-a-bun along with coffee and cold drinks. The energy was palpable, a little frantic and oh, so exciting.
This year the Yard Sale was dedicated to Nancy Heise. Nancy was a long-time Auxiliary member who sadly passed away this past spring. She had worked her magic on organizing the yard sale over the many years it has been held. Much of the smoothness of setting up the arena is thanks to her ability to visualize the set up, ensure the categories were organized and constantly refine, refine, refine. Those who have worked with Nancy over the years were sure to hear her voice in our heads, especially when straying from the course. We know that her spirit will always be with us at the yard sale.
Thanks go out to our amazing community. We had so many donations. Those seeking hidden treasures were not disappointed. We also want to thank those who came out to shop. There were so many of you, some who schedule the yard sale months in advance and some who are first timers. It is always fun to observe those being welcomed into the sale. There are those who are on a mission, those who immediately look over the furniture and those who quickly scan to see what is on offer. That excitement makes all the work worthwhile.
Thanks also to the Municipal staff who assist us. We so appreciate their energy and muscles to assist with set up and shut down, not to mention helping move heavy items for buyers to pick up. We couldn’t do it without you.
Shopping can be tiring and it is lovely to be able to take a break with coffee, a bottle of cold water or pop and, of course, the delicious peameal bacon buns or sausage-on-a-bun prepared by the Lions Club. Absolutely delicious. Brian Taylor’s group played music throughout the sale. It is such fun to hear so many good old Canadian Classics.
While the Yard Sale of 2026 is over don’t forget to visit our Used Bookstore, Wednesday and Saturday mornings at the back of Christ Church on Main Street in Lion’s Head. Summer is the time to kick back, relax and read. We have a wide variety of novels and non-fiction from which to choose. Also, our Clothing Drive will be held September 12th this year. More details will be available closer to the date.
We are so fortunate to have the support of this amazing community. Every dollar the Lion’s Head Hospital Auxiliary raises goes toward funding equipment needs at Brightshores, Lion’s Head Hospital. With your support we are helping to keep health care local. Thank you.
We’re all in this together.
