Crane day at Lion’s Head Marina is a scheduled May event, happening like clockwork on the Saturday of the Victoria Day weekend. Boat owners, crew, volunteers and the crane operator all come together in an orchestrated set of procedures to move the boats stored on land into the water. It is a slick and carefully crafted activity to ensure the boats are safely moved to the water.
Crane Day has always been a spectator sport in Lion’s Head. This year many of the younger generation expressed their interest in observing this annual ritual. They came with their friends and families as they excitedly watched the “big crane” swing the boats towards the harbour and gently lower them into the water.
