April 29, 2026 – To support the continued growth of endoscopy services across Grey Bruce, Brightshores is moving forward with a new regional model built around four endoscopy hubs located in Wiarton, Markdale, Meaford and Owen Sound. This approach is designed to expand capacity over time while ensuring patients continue to receive high-quality, timely care in Grey Bruce.
“By bringing our expertise together through this coordinated network of hubs, we are strengthening the program today and positioning it to respond to future demand,” says Beth Morris, Vice President Clinical Programs and Quality, Chief Nursing Executive. “This important advancement will enhance quality of care, improve efficiency, expand capacity and reduce wait times for patients and families.”
Markdale and Wiarton will increase their endoscopy services as part of the regional network. Meaford and Owen Sound will continue providing endoscopy as they do today.
Endoscopy services currently performed at Southampton Hospital will transition to Wiarton in July, followed by expanded hours in Markdale beginning in September.
Our focus is on maintaining a strong ambulatory care presence at each site – defined by access to high-quality, patient-centred care, optimal use of resources and readiness to support future growth.
The Southampton Hospital will continue to play a meaningful role within the regional system. Expansion of ambulatory care services in Southampton are part of future programming.
“Ensuring a smooth transition for Brightshores patients and teams is a priority,” said Morris. “This regional approach positions us to meet growing demand and continue improving access to timely, high‑quality care across Grey Bruce.”
Our commitment to maintaining access and strengthening care across all communities remains clear. We will provide clear and timely information as these plans continue to develop.
