Petition to Ban Fireworks “Malarkey”
I like fireworks. I like the “stinky” smell of fireworks.
I am 75 years young at heart and normally don’t write letters to a newspaper, but when people threaten MY council, I make it a point to reply if I don’t agree.
I live here as a permanent resident and am very pleased with OUR fire chief and council members who drew up the Municipal Bylaw# 2022-21, as many of the residents of Northern Bruce are for fireworks. I know our council cannot please everyone but they do their best to satisfy the majority. There is no need to threaten our council, especially at voting time. If you can do better, than run for council.
I must say, the fireworks on Eagle Road are some of the nicest ones I watch. Yes, I live across Dorcas Bay and my neighbours put on 2 shows of fireworks, one on Canada Day and the other one on Labour Day, maybe you can watch them if you live on the Dorcas Bay side of Eagle Road. I am glad they invite me for them.
Now, as far as the birds and animals getting affected by fireworks, you have to give them more credit than you do. They are very resilient, especially to put up with thunder and lightning storms that happen more often than 4 weekends of fireworks a year. If your neighbours are not following the bylaw, by all means report them.
And on a last note, I would like to use a favorite word that is in US President Joe Biden’s vocabulary concerning your petition in banning fireworks, that it is just “Malarkey” and you won’t find my name on it.
