Bruce Peninsula OPP Report: Cyclist Facing Charges After Failing To Stop For Police

(SOUTH BRUCE PENINSULA, ON) On September 9, 2021 at approximately 12 a.m., Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of suspicious people on bicycles in the area of George Street in the Town of Wiarton

Police arrived on scene and discovered a suspect matching the description provided by the complainant. Police attempted to stop the suspect, however the suspect ignored police and failed to stop. The suspect was stopped a short time later and placed under arrest.

As a result of the investigation, the Grey Bruce OPP have arrested and charged a 22 year old from South Bruce Peninsula with the following offences:

· Cyclist – fail to stop

· Possession of a Schedule 3 substance

The accused was released and must attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on October 14th, 2021.

MOTORIST CHARGED WITH IMPAIRED DRIVING

(SOUTH BRUCE PENINSULA, ON) On September 9, 2021 at approximately 8:30 p.m., Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) to address an equipment violation.

The driver was placed under arrest, and transported to the Grey Bruce OPP detachment, where further tests were administered.

As a result of the investigation, the Grey Bruce OPP have arrested and charged a 48 year old from South Bruce Peninsula with the following offences:

· Operation of a motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol, and

· Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), and

· Driving while prohibited

The accused must attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on October 14th, 2021.

COLLISION INVESTIGATION IN WIARTON

(SOUTH BRUCE PENINSULA, ON) – On September 4, 2021, at approximately 12:45 p.m., the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Bruce County Emergency Medical Services (EMS), and the South Bruce Peninsula Fire Department responded to a car vs motorcycle collision on Berford Street in Wiarton.

The motorcyclist was taken to a London area hospital with serious life-threatening injuries.

The Grey Bruce OPP and the OPP West Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement Team (TIME) were on scene, and are continuing the investigation.

Berford Street was closed between William Street and Jenny Street. Motorists had to detour around this incident to the West, using Gould Street and McNaughton Street.

CHARGES LAID AFTER MISCHIEF CALL – Suspect Arrested

(GEORGIAN BLUFFS, ON) – On September 1, 2021, at approximately 8:30 a.m., Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of an individual damaging property on Carney Street in the Township of Georgian Bluffs.

As a result of this investigation, Grey Bruce OPP have arrested and charged a 21 year old, from Neyaashiinigmiing First Nation with the following offences:

· Mischief

· Theft under $5000

The accused was released and must attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on October 14, 2021.

POLICE REMINDING PUBLIC OF PROPER REPORTING METHODS

(GREY BRUCE, ON) – Over the last few weeks, the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have been receiving voice mails from members of the public trying to report occurrences that require police investigation. Police would like to remind members of the public that the detachment phone number is not constantly monitored, and is used for inquiries such as: record checks, fingerprint appointments, and other administrative matters.

DRIVER STOPPED FOR STUNT DRIVING

(NORTHERN BRUCE PENINSULA, ON) On August 24, 2021 at approximately 7:30 p.m., members from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) West Region Traffic Incident Management & Enforcement Team (TIME) were conducting motorcycle patrols on Highway 6 in the Municipality of Northern Bruce Peninsula.

Officers stopped a pickup truck towing an enclosed trailer (see photo), after it was found to be travelling at over 140 kilometers per hour (km/h) in a posted 80 km/h speed limit zone. During the investigation, officers also discovered several pieces of safety equipment which were not in an appropriate working order.

West Region TIME members have charged a 25-year-old of Owen Sound, with Stunt Driving – 50km/h or more over the posted speed limit, contrary to Section 172(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA), in addition to other HTA offences pertaining to equipment violations.

The accused was issued a provincial summons to attend court, along with a seven-day driver’s licence suspension. The individual’s vehicle was towed and will be impounded for 14 days.
