Letter: Are You a Cyclist Looking For a Local Challenge?

Are there any cyclists looking for a challenge?

As some of you know, over the last 3 Septembers I’ve been working on a project to ride my bike across Canada. I’m just short of Ottawa this year heading east. I was so looking forward to getting Quebec done next month but with the Pandemic I’m not sure traveling is a good idea. Quebec would have taken me 10 days doing my usual 100 km a day, and 10 different motels!

I’ve had a ‘light bulb’, moment and decided to do it virtually! Yes, I’ll be doing the same distance but close to home, right here on the Peninsula.

A trip from Tobermory to Lion’s Head and back is approximately 100 km. I’m a fair weather cyclist, the first nice 10 days after Labour Day I’ll be doing it. Are there any cyclists up for the challenge of all 10 days or even joining me for one day?

So disappointed that I can’t continue on the Trans Canada this year, but if I do the ‘mileage’ close to home, I’ll be ready to start on New Brunswick next September.

Anyone interested in joining me on this challenge, give me a call at 519-596-2649.

Bunkey Cunliffe,
