On the morning of Monday, July 20th, Rotarians Catherine Henderson and Sue Kolundzic along with several community volunteers met at Lion’s Head Beach for the second ‘Butt Blitz’ event of the 2026 season, collecting about 800 cigarette butts from the Beach and the areas around Rotary Pavilion and Lion’s Head Marina.
The kickoff of the 2026 ‘Butt Blitz’ campaign back on May 12th collected over 1,200 cigarette butts from Lion’s Head Beach and Bruce Trail areas. The third ‘Butt Blitz’ event will likely be scheduled for sometime in August and we’ll advise on the actual date and time once known, looking for more community volunteers to participate. Thanks to those who participated in this second ‘Butt Blitz’ event, working hard to help Keep the Bruce Beautiful! To help reduce the risk of spontaneous wildfires on the Bruce, please dispose of your cigarette butts in a safe manner, and follow the ‘Butt Blitz’ campaign motto of ‘Hike it! Love it! Keep it Clean!’
On Tuesday, July 21st at Rotary Hall, our Club expressed thanks and appreciation to Rotarian Catherine Henderson, presenting her with three Paul Harris Fellow awards (PHF+2) for her outstanding contributions to our Club and the community of Northern Bruce Peninsula! Cat joined Rotary in July 2019, and has served on our Club executive six of the past seven years, with multiple terms as Club President and Club Treasurer.
Incoming Club President Sue Kolundzic and Past-President Cathryn Buckley presented the awards to Cat. As noted by President Kolundzic, ‘Cat demonstrated the Rotary motto ‘Service Above Self’ with her passionate dedication to community’, concluding that ‘… a good leader inspires people to have confidence in the leader but a great leader inspires people to have confidence in themselves. And you’ve certainly done that for us!’

Our third community Pancake Breakfast will be held at the Rotary Hall on Sunday, August 2nd, from 9:00 to 11:30 AM. Please come join us for a delicious breakfast of buttermilk & vanilla pancakes with real maple syrup, scrambled eggs, pork sausages, seasoned hash browns, orange juice and coffee/tea, served by Rotarians and Friends of Rotary.
Another Friday Pub Night will be held at Rotary Hall this coming Friday (July 31st, from 7:00 PM until late in the evening), along with two scheduled Friday Pub Nights for next month to be held August 14th and 28th.
Also at Rotary Hall, we invite you to come check out our new ‘Community Café’ at the Hall with bistro tables and chairs on our now-open front patio, initially starting mid-week mornings (Tuesday and Wednesday mornings from 8:00 AM to noon), with other service groups participating in the Community Café project – more details will be posted on our Rotary facebook page and website.
