She’s back! Once again, the Tobermory Health Services Auxiliary (THSA) is pleased to support dental hygiene care in Tobermory. In cooperation with the Peninsula Family Health Team (PFHT), Candace McIntyre, RHD will be parking her Shine 1-1 Mobile Dental Hygiene Clinic at the Tobermory Clinic (7275 Hwy 6) on Tuesdays. This service provides access to residents who may otherwise face logistical barriers to dental services such as dental hygiene evaluation and cleaning, fluoride protection, oral cancer examinations, and tooth whitening. Book your appointment now by calling 519-373-3519, emailing info@shine-1-1.ca, or visiting the website: shine-1-1.ca.
Taking advantage of Candy’s expertise and presence in the community, the THSA has made arrangements for JK and SK students at St. Edmunds Public School to participate in oral/dental care instruction on May 5, 2026. Each kindergartener will receive a free goodie bag – containing a new toothbrush and a tube of toothpaste courtesy of Maxill.
The THSA has recently approved revisions to its Scholarship for Health Care Studies expanding who can apply; adding Paramedic to the list of eligible professions; and extending the deadline to May 31, 2026. The $2,000 scholarship will now be awarded to a student whose primary residence is in the Northern Bruce Peninsula who is entering or continuing a college or university program, at any level, leading to certification in a health care profession. For example, eligible applicants now include students graduating with a bachelor’s degree entering a medical school or students progressing from year to year within their current program. For full scholarship details and application information, please visit: thsa.ca. All eligible students are encouraged to apply.
The initiatives of the THSA – equipment purchases for the PFHT clinics, Golden Dawn, Fire Department, our Health and Wellness Speakers Series, the THSA Scholarship, community partner support – are funded through fundraising. A Quilt Raffle is currently underway. For just $5 per ticket, you could win a beautiful 64” × 80” handmade quilt in the Homespun pattern, valued at $1,200. To purchase tickets, contact any THSA member, email tobermoryhsa@gmail.com, or watch for our ticket table at Peacock’s or Hellyer’s Foodland in the near future. Don’t miss your chance to take home this stunning quilt while supporting health initiatives that benefit communities across the Northern Bruce Peninsula.
At the recent THSA Annual General Meeting, the resignations of Vice President, Carol Solursh and Communications Lead, Donna Cole were accepted with both regret and gratitude. The dedication and commitment of these two individuals will be greatly missed. Fortunately, they will continue to remain active members of the THSA. The position of Vice President remains vacant while the role of Communications Lead has been assumed by Wendy Caron. Lin Gitterman, President; Patty Kelly, Secretary, Rick Caron, Treasurer and Rob Davis, Past-President will complete their terms in April 2027.
Upcoming opportunities for the community to engage with and support the THSA will be at future Health and Wellness Speaker Series talks, the Chi-Cheemaun Festival Pancake Breakfast, and our Fall Fundraiser Dinner at the Princess Hotel. Please follow our Facebook and Instagram pages or visit the THSA website to learn more about these events.
