On November 19, 2025, the Ontario College of Family Physicians (OCFP) honoured local physician Dr. Jonathan Thomas, of Lion’s Head, with a Regional Family Physician of the Year Award – West Region.
The news release from OCFP states “Dr. Thomas demonstrates a profound commitment to the Bruce Peninsula community by:
-Providing primary care to his practice of 1000+ patients along with palliative care, inpatient care, nursing home care and home visits, along with weekly coverage for the emergency room in Lion’s Head.
-Leading through challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic and ensuring 24/7 coverage for the emergency room as Site chief/Chief of Staff.
-Supporting and mentoring students, residents and new graduates who begin and then continue their hospital and emergency department work at Lion’s Head.
-Contributing to recruitment and retention of local physicians.”
