The Tobermory Health Services Auxiliary (THSA) held an informal and casual “fireside” chat with Dr. George Harpur on October 16. The session was very well attended and people enjoyed some personal stories, laughs and insights into his vast life experiences and adventures. Dr. Harpur’s skills at storytelling held the audience’s attention for over 80 minutes. Links to the recorded session can be found on the THSA Facebook page.
The THSA is continuing our health and wellness speaker series for the fall/winter season with Hearing Loss and Cognitive Function: The Hidden Connection on November 20th.
Hearing loss affects far more than our ability to communicate — it also plays a crucial role in brain health. This presentation explores how untreated hearing loss can contribute to cognitive decline, social isolation, and even dementia risk. We’ll discuss the latest research linking auditory stimulation and cognitive resilience, as well as practical steps individuals can take to protect both hearing and brain function.
Presented by Jill Curtis, licensed Hearing Instrument Specialist and owner of Great Lakes Hearing.
