The Pike Bay Community Association (PBCA) recently celebrated the 60th anniversary of the purchase of the former one room schoolhouse that then became the Pike Bay Community Centre. The original $500 purchase was made from the School Treasurer with funds donated by community members.
The event was well attended and included Mayor McIver and MPP Paul Vickers, who presented certificates. The St. Edmunds and Bruce Peninsula Museum aided by providing period school items for a display.
The Pike Bay Community Association has benefited from community grants from the Municipality of North Bruce Peninsula that augmented local fundraising to implement repairs and upgrades to this building (built in 1885)to allow them to continue to provide a wide variety of activities and workshops.
Funding from the Ontario Ministry for Seniors and Accessibility for SALC (Seniors Active Living Centre) has allowed us to increase programming and keep costs down for those 55+.
The PBCA looks forward to being the caretakers of this historic building and hosts for activities for many years to come!
