Christmas financial support of The Lion’s Head & District Food Bank was wonderful once again in December. The Food Bank was granted a Registered Charity number in 2024 through the CRA so receipts will be sent out prior to February 28th.
We wanted to send our appreciation to those who donated to both peninsula food banks and the Fire Fighters’ Toy Drive through the Municipality of Northern Bruce Peninsula. You will receive your receipts through the municipality.
The Lion’s Head & District Food Bank is a volunteer driven organization. There are 7 Directors on the Food Bank Board, 7 hamper day volunteers and 1 dedicated delivery volunteer. We are grateful to The Pentecostal Country Church for providing the food bank with a safe environment to serve our community.
Community donations made it possible to serve an average of 50 individuals per month, not including the children. We were also able to provide substantial Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas hampers. We provided 56 Christmas hampers in 2024 which was a dramatic increase from previous years. Food insecurity is very real on the Peninsula. Without the generous support of our community businesses, service clubs, churches and individuals we would not be able to fulfill our mission.
Current information is always available on Facebook under The Lion’s Head District Food Bank. You can find contact information, hamper day dates, special holiday hamper dates (for ordering and picking up), weather cancellations and other interesting tidbits about our organization.
The Lion’s Head & District Food Bank has a new food donation bin at Hellyer’s Foodland in Lion’s Head. We are grateful for all non-perishable food items throughout the year! Our greatest need is canned fruit and canned vegetables.
