Stopped in Awe: News from Tobermory United
Submitted by Rev. Sheryl Spencer
The leaves may still be colourful on the trees, but Tobermory United has begun to prepare for the annual St. Nicholas Bazaar! The bazaar will take place November 30th at the Tobermory Community Centre between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
All the things that people love about the St. Nicholas Bazaar will be present – handmade rustic home decorations from Northern Twisted Roots; the bake table, craft vendors, a silent auction, lunch – but some new innovations will be integrated too! Chicken enchiladas will be for sale, for example, and also chicken pot pies. But fruit pies? Only in mini form. Part of the legacy of Vi Adams was that she could – and did – make 75 home-made pie crusts for the bazaar each year. I’m afraid that Vi’s passing in August, has meant the same for the legendary pies that were offered at the bazaar, but Vi’s memory is strong as we carry on planning this beloved event.
On November 2, Northern Twisted Roots will offer a craft workshop at Tobermory United at 1:00 p.m. All are welcome to come out and create beautiful things for the bazaar from salvaged treasures and repurposed vintage items under Scott and Tanya’s direction.
If you’d like to help with the bazaar, we’ll need baking for the bake table, volunteers, hand-made crafts, and items for the nearly-new table. If you can assist, contact the church at tobermoryunitedchurch@eastlink.ca or 519-596-2394. Those interested in booking a table as a vendor can contact Sheila Peacock at 226-668-2905. The St. Nicholas Bazaar is a fundraiser for Tobermory United, but also a festive community gathering that celebrates beauty and creativity.
On November 10, Tobermory United looks forward to participating in a Service of Remembrance with all four Tobermory churches at Light and Life Chapel. The service will begin at 10:30 a.m. and a light potluck lunch will follow.
Rev. Sheryl Spencer is the minister at Tobermory United Church, 5 Brock St. She has office hours every Friday morning from 9:30 to noon. All are welcome to drop by for a chat or just to say hi!
