An enormous crane was observed alongside Little Tub harbour in Tobermory recently. The crane, and accompanying trucks, barge, tug boats, generator, heavy equipment and workers were all here for the removal of an old and crumbling helicopter pad from North Otter Island.
East Elgin Concrete Forming, Marine Division, were contracted for this work by the Canadian Coast Guard.
The marine navigation lights on North Otter Island are fully automated, no longer requiring regular visits for maintenance via helicopter.
The concrete that was removed from the island was trucked away for rendering and recycling.
