After nearly four years of planning and obtaining all necessary permits, owner Adam Robins is finally getting started with the actual building of 12 one-bedroom apartments for Seniors at the corner of Maple Golf Crescent and Highway 6. If all goes according to plan the first 6 of these apartments will be ready for occupancy by summer 2025.

The process of getting from idea to breaking ground included consultation with Saugeen Ojibway Nation. They conducted an archeological assessment and found some shards of pottery that were identified as being of Indigenous origin. The planned location of the building was relocated to accommodate these findings and Adam has marked the area where the pottery was found with bright orange fencing.

When the project is finished there will be 7 units with a bedroom plus a den with a car garage and 5 smaller units with no garage. A further 6 units are possible, but only after town water and sewer services are extended south to this part of Tobermory. At this time, the 12 new units will be serviced with a private well and sewer system.

No doubt many of us will be cruising by slowly and possibly even stopping from time to time to observe the progress of this exciting new build that is intended for the people who live here and not for our many short-term visitors.
