On Saturday, August 3rd and Sunday, August 4th, between 10am and 4pm, “Hooked on the Bruce”, is presenting our show based on traditional rug hooking. Located at The Friendship Club, 6 Tackabury Street in Lion’s Head, women from Miller Lake to Pike Bay, Lion’s Head to Stokes Bay, have created a beautiful display of rugs, wall hangings, purses and pillows. Admission is free, tea/coffee and homemade treats will be available by donation, handmade items for purchase, and interactive demonstrations.
A true North American craft born of the necessity of warming bare floors and walls, original rugs were created by pulling loops of fabric strips cut from old clothing through a feed-sack backing using a bent nail. While today the basic method of traditional hooking has not changed much, new and recycled fabric from old t-shirts to sari silk are used, wool and yarns being the favourites.
Artistry is evident in all of the work presented. Many members design their own rugs and everyone has their own distinct creative style and preferred colour palette.
If you missed seeing this talented group’s work displayed in May at the Deep Water Gallery, Wiarton, be sure to set aside some time to visit the “Hooked on the Bruce” Rug Show and Tea in Lion’s Head on August 3rd and 4th.
