The Church of St Edmunds is gearing up for a very busy summer with lots of events scheduled.
First, to assist with this busy time, we would like to welcome Devan Munn. Devan is a theology student who will be living at the cottage attached to the church for the summer. In the summer, our Pastor Janaki has six congregations to minister to, Devan will be helping Janaki with this. He will be active with the Church of St Edmunds on Sundays for the 10.00 am service. He will also be involved in our many summer projects.
To welcome Devan we held a potluck supper on June 2nd in the fellowship hall attached to the church. This was well attended with people from as far away as our Wiarton Congregations, as well as people from the local churches in Tobermory.
This will be the second year for Summer in the Spirit. It was very successful and well attended in 2023. Summer in the Spirit is organised by both the Anglican and United churches in Tobermory. Again, it will be held on Wednesday evenings at 7:00 pm.
Our first and last event will, as last year, be a community fire on June 26th and August 21st. It will be on the grounds of The Church of St Edmunds. The leaders for this community fire will be, as in 2023, April Jones and Johnny Keeshig from the Chippewas of Nawash. These two community fires will be all-day events unlike the rest of the program. At 9 am the ceremonies will start with the lighting of the fire with tobacco offerings and water teaching. At noon there will be open discussions on various topics and story telling. At 6pm there will be a community feast with prayers and land offering. This is a perfect opportunity for people to come and go and ask questions in a way that suits them. Plan on dropping by for awhile to learn more.
Our annual yard sale will be July 13th. This is one of the most anticipated events of the summer in Tobermory! Always bargains and treasures to be found. July 8th to July 12 there will be people at the church ready to help unload your car with items you wish to donate to this event.
So please as you spring clean save items for us to sell. If you need them out of your way before the above drop off dates, please contact Jane 519-596-2081 or Bernie 519-596-2260
Last year $3,000.00 from this yard sale was donated to Tobermory Primary Place. This year we will be donating the funds to The Meeting place and the Women’s Centre Grey Bruce.
2024 is the 65th anniversary of the Church of St. Edmunds. We would appreciate hearing from you. Maybe with photos of your wedding and other special occasions held at the church over the last 65 years. We’d love copies of your photos and a record of your memories!
More information to come on the Summer in the Spirit, the Yard Sale and the 65th anniversary.
