Draw 2 of the current curling season was held November 27, December 4, 11 and 18.  We had enough curlers registered to open up an early draw, as well as the late one, with an option to curl at both times.

Draw 2 4PM champs were Lead Maria Dario, Second Barb Elder, Vice Betty Hastings, and Skip George Hambleton. Congratulations to the winners who received a gift certificate donated by our sponsor, The Shops at 84 Main.

Annual RONA Bonspiel

Our annual RONA Bonspiel was sold out again this year.  The day started at 8am with muffins and coffee.  With eyes wide open, 40 curlers took to the ice for the first game at 9am and were ready for lunch after 8 strenuous ends of sweeping and fabulous (for the most part) shots.

RONA staff prepared and served the eagerly anticipated lasagna, caesar salad and garlic toast lunch. Rotary Club volunteers tended the bar for us again and we are always grateful to them for their dedication in helping us have successful bonspiels.

After lunch it was back to the ice for our fundraising game – shoot the glass turkey.  Bonspiel fundraisers are helping us with our ongoing project of replacing our old curling stones.  We have completed two sets and hope to replace the remaining three over the next few years.

Alan Jones ended up with the rock closest to the decorated one with 78 others all having been thrown in hopes of being the closest.  The fancy one was almost out the door when action ended!  Alan won a $50 gift certificate for the LCBO.

The second curling game of the day got underway around 1:30pm and after another 8 ends we waited for the score tally and announcement of the winners.  Prizes provided by RONA were arranged on tables and the winning team, The Eichenbergers, got to have first choice.  Once again the gracious RONA team came in last!

This is the 45th consecutive year that the building centre at Miller Lake, currently operating as RONA, has sponsored a bonspiel for the Lion’s Head Curling Club.  When it comes to the 50th year we’re just “gonna have to let them win”!
