The Lion’s Head Terry Fox Run was held on 20 September 2026. Starting at the Lion’s Head beach pavilion, walkers, runners, cyclists and rollerbladers, kids in strollers and wagons, along with volunteers and supporters turned out for the local event.

A spectator estimated that approximately 86 participants made their way down Isthmus Bay Road.

The event was hosted at the Lion’s Head Beach Pavilion again this year, and the Martens say “we are really happy with the setup and access to washroom, water and cool off spots.”

Online donations and the money received at the event totalled $22,652.00. The final count is usually available by  5 October when all the online donations are tallied.  “We are so pleased with this year’s donations”, stated the Martens.

The top fundraiser this year is Betty Hastings who raised  $4,110.00.  Betty’s mother died of cancer and five years ago Betty started the challenge to go 10 km every day in September.  Other top fundraisers were Bill and Sheri Terrific Team raising $2,465.00, followed by Marg Glendon who raised $1,800.00. The annual Lion’s Head Sailboat Race donated $1,700.00.

The local event received two recognition awards in 2025: The Terry Fox Run Legacy Award commemorating 35 years, and the The Terry Fox Run Milestone Award for raising  $300,000 over the years. It is an admirable achievement for past and present organizers Vicki and Roger Stevens and the Marten family, and for all of the volunteers and donors.

Additionally, in 2025 the Lion’s Head Terry Fox event was one of the Top 20 Run Sites per Capita

The organizers wish to say “a huge thank you to Hastings Tree Services for the new banner. And a huge thank you to Camp Celtic for their donation of our post-event refreshments and event gear. We wouldn’t have the success we do without the local support.”

The Martens thanked everyone for being at the event, “Whether you are walking, running, rolling, cycling, volunteering, donating or cheering from the sidelines, you are part of something truly special. Your support helps continue Terry’s dream of a world without cancer.”
