SERVICE – WE ASSIST, NURTURE, SUPPORT
Submitted by Bonnie Warder
President Cathy McLay asked that all members wear a poppy to the November meeting to honour those that gave up so much to fight for our country and the freedom that we enjoy. Our Club also supports the Legion with the purchase of a wreath and attendance at the Remembrance Day ceremony to express our gratitude and appreciation of the veterans.
Treasurer Bev Miller has delivered several donations that our Club wanted to make in the community. The membership decided to donate $600.00 to the Nutrition Program at Bruce Peninsula District School (BPDS).
Many studies show a positive association between nutrition and academic achievement and the SWANS proudly support this initiative and also say a big thanks to the caring staff at our local school for making sure the students have access to healthy and nutritious foods.
This is a great time of year to consider a donation to the local Food Banks. Treasurer Bev Miller presented the SWANS’ annual financial support to Darlene Myles, the Coordinator for the Lion’s Head & District Food Bank. The Wish List for the Food Bank appeared in the last issue of the Press and this is a reminder that donations can be dropped off at Peninsula Pet Supply in downtown Ferndale or at the arena in Lion’s Head. Monetary donations can be mailed to PO Box 22, Lion’s Head, ON NOH 1WO or e-transfer to lhfoodbank@gmail.com.

Thanks to all those that make this valuable service available to our Community.

The November 3rd edition of The Sun Times offered an overview of the Safe N Sound Centre in Owen Sound. The SWANS voted to donate $400.00 to the organization that provides many services at the drop-in centre. The latest improvement is to provide extended hours to include an all-night warming centre until March 31, 2024 to ensure people have somewhere to go during the cold weather.
There are further community donations to be completed and will be included in future articles.
Just a quick reminder that our Annual Christmas Bazaar is on December 2nd at the Friendship Club, next to the arena in Lion’s Head. There will be our famous Bake Sale Table, Silent Auction, and Outdoor Greenery creations available from 10am until 2pm. We also offer a tasty light lunch that starts around 11am, so grab a bowl of homemade soup with a bun, tea or coffee and some Christmas cookies for only $7. The sales at this event are CASH only. Thanks in advance.
