This year’s Terry Fox Run will be held on Sunday September 17, 2023. The start time is 1:00 p.m. at the Bruce Peninsula District School, 5 Moore Street. Lion’s Head.

Organizers Anna and Adam Martens encourage everyone who wants to join to participate in any way that suits them; be it to bike, run, or any other physical activity that you enjoy.

For the in-person event starting at BPDS, the course is about 10 km, from the School, along Main Street to Isthmus Bay. Participants can do all or any distance they prefer.

The Martens say the “goal is to bring our community together to honour Terry Fox, have some fun, and raise some money for cancer research”.

This is the third year that the Martens Family has organized the event, taking over from long-time organizers Vicky and Roger Stevens.

The Martens encourage everyone to please consider registering and donating online at https://run.terryfox.ca/28744

T-shirts will be available to purchase at the event location on September 17th. Adults t-shirts are $25 and youth t-shirts are $20.

Marathon of Hope

Last year the Martens met North Bruce residents Mike and Linda Boire and their two dogs Eleanor and Rigby. Mike is a musician and has written and recorded a catchy song to spread Terry’s message of hope. “Marathon of Hope” by Mike Boire can be found on music streaming platforms such as Spotify, Apple, Amazon, and YouTube.

All proceeds from the song will be donated by Mike to the Terry Fox Foundation.

Good Support in 2022

Organizers say the 2022 event was exceptional. Lion’s Head event collected a little over $13,000 to donate to the Terry Fox foundation.

Adam and Anna would like to thank and congratulate all of the participants and community donors for making it all happen. A special thanks to Hellyer’s Foodland for donating the hot dogs and buns and to Hastings Tree Service for helping to put up the Terry Fox event banner over the road on Main Street each year.

The Martens hope to see many members of the community, either as participants or supporters, on September 17 at 1 p.m at BPDS. They wish to remind spectators and motorists, to please be aware of runners, walkers and cyclists making their way along Main Street and up Isthmus Bay Road and back.

Sailboat race donates to the Terry Fox Run

The Lion’s Head Annual Fall Sailboat Race takes place on 16 and 17 September on Isthmus Bay. The sailors donate all fundraising proceeds to the Lion’s Head Terry Fox Run. In 2022, the Race donated $1,120 to the Terry Fox Run.
