The Bruce Men’s Shed has recently received assistance from a local individual who has agreed to supply a temporary space within their building where supplies, equipment, and tools can be stored and worked upon for various projects. In place of rent, the Men’s Shed provides a variety of skill sets to assist the owner with small jobs required for maintenance purposes of the premises. However, the space will be utilized for storage this Fall leaving the Shed looking for a new winter location.
Subsequently, the leadership team is exploring options across the Peninsula for a site to call home while completing inside winter projects, including woodworking and workshops such as gardening and modeling. If you think you have a place that might work for such purposes during the winter months, please don’t hesitate to contact the Men’s Shed leadership team at brucemensshed@gmail.com or call Gerry at (519) 793-3005.
Moving forward, the Bruce Men’s Shed is looking to collaborate with various stakeholders across the Peninsula who may benefit from multiple projects that the Men can assist with, including bird, bee, turtle, butterfly, and bat boxes.
On Saturday, July 15, members of the Men’s Shed attended the Tobermory Men’s Breakfast where they enjoyed an excellent presentation by Esme Batten, the Program Director from the Nature Conservancy of Canada who may be a perfect stakeholder match.
The Tobermory Men’s Breakfast, established in 1996, is a great venue for Men to enjoy fellowship and hear from speakers involved in numerous projects and activities throughout the area. The next Tobermory Breakfast is slated for Saturday, August 12 at the Community Center.

Some of the Men also attended a butterfly presentation by Anne James at the Pike Bay Community Centre that same day. During the presentation, it was apparent that if the Men built some butterfly boxes, that may assist members throughout the area, helping the monarch population re-establish itself here on the Peninsula would be a worthy cause. Any monies raised from the future sale of items would fund further Shed projects.
Monthly Meeting Date
Starting on Saturday, August 19, the Bruce Men’s Shed will host general meetings on the third Saturday of each month. The third Saturday will be for general meetings only as various projects, events, and activities will/may be held on other dates outside the regularly scheduled monthly meeting dates.
Currently the general meetings are held at the Lion’s Head Legion, Branch #202 (Hwy 6 north of Ferndale) starting at 9:00 am. If you want further information on how to get involved with the Men’s Shed movement, please don’t hesitate to contact the Men’s Shed leadership team at brucemensshed@gmail.com or call Gerry at (519) 793-3005.
