Media Release

This June, the Lion’s Head Soccer program wrapped up its 2nd season. The coaches would like to say a huge thank you to all the players for their hard work, energy and commitment this year. With 52 players registered aged 4-11, the Bruce Peninsula District School athletics field was the place to be on Friday evenings through May and June.

The final practise that took place on June 23rd consisted of 3 teams vs. parents and coaches, so a big thank you to the parents for joining the fun. After practise the players enjoyed hotdogs and prizes. Organizer Anna Martens would like to pass on her appreciation to the coaches who volunteered their Friday evenings to help with the program. Thank you to Michael, Barbara, Matthew and Lucas Mocny, Will Heywood, Al Jones, Gillian Ceaser, Aiden Wingrave, Shannon Moodie and Adam Martens. Without the help of the volunteers the program would not be able to run. We would also like to say thank you to local designer Siobhan Shred of Jouxte Design Co. for our new logo.

We hope to see just as many players attend next year. Registration will start back up again in April 2024. Please keep an eye on the Lion’s Head Soccer page for updates.

With so many families moving to the Bruce Peninsula, Anna would like to offer her knowledge of recreational programming and organizing to anyone who has any interest in running any sort of sport, activity or event for the community and help get them started. Bluewater District School Board allows rental of school grounds, classrooms and gyms for free, if not minimal fee based on availability. The more groups who book the use of the school premises the better the report numbers that go back to the government, that then circles back around for more funding for the community for recreational developments. The more the use, the more the funding.

So let’s use the schools, arena, Ferndale Information Centre, even the Lion’s Head Pavilion, and get more programming, recreational activities and events on our doorstep.
